Who is Jennifer?

Wife, mother, volunteer...and someone who loves Newton!

Like many others in this City, I am not a Newton native. I was born and raised in New Jersey, just outside of Princeton. After earning a degree in Art and Art History at Colgate University, in Hamilton, NY and a graduate degree in Historic Preservation from the University of Pennsylvania, I moved to Newton. I’ve lived in several neighborhoods in the north part of the City: Newton Corner, Auburndale, West Newton, and Newtonville.

I am married to Braden Houston, whom some of you may remember from his campaign for the same seat in 2017. He and I have very similar concerns when it comes to Newton and both advocate for more affordable housing, reasonably scaled development projects, local representation, great schools, the environment, and protected open green space. Although he and I often see things from a different perspective, we do see eye-to-eye on one thing: making sure Newton remains a safe, culturally-diverse City for our daughters.

We are raising two wonderful and active girls in the City. Beckett, age 12, attends Day Middle School and plays lacrosse and ice hockey. Blake, age 6 attends Peirce Elementary and loves to sing and dance. I am very active in the Pierce PTO as a 2-year Board member of the Social Action Committee, running about 7 fundraisers and drives a year for the Peirce students, to teach them how to give back to their Community. In addition, I volunteer with the Day Middle School PTO.

I am excited to have this opportunity to run for City Council. I am always available to chat and listen to your concerns facing the City, your neighborhood, and your family.
